Biography
Alard De Smidt started in the film industry as an assie grip, he moved right up to being a Key Grip before deciding that camera was where his passion lay. He took a big risk and starting at the bottom again started in the camera department as a loader and worked his way up.
He eventually landed an amazing gig operating for Keith Rose on the best South African and international commercials and from there went on to become a successful DP in his own right.
Alard is always ready to try something new and his background as a grip definitely has given him a certain edge as he’s able to push boundaries. He’s also one of those guys that leaves his ego at the door!
